Daily watercolor painting – Abstract #2 – watercolor and black marker

Abstract watercolor - High Tech

Abstract watercolor - High Tech

I have completed the Abstract watercolor – High Tech.  It is done on a 15 x 22 inches cold press watercolor paper.  The black lines was done using a felt tip permanent marker and the color was put on layers using watercolor paint.  I have finished the painting and have not sign it yet because I need to decide which way it shoud be hung.  I like the way it looks being a vertical painting as shown but the Abstract watercolor looks good when it is view as a horizontal painting as well.  Inside the watercolor painting, there is a computer monitor, keyboard, numerical keypad and mouse.  It is lots of fun producing this abstract high tech watercolor painting.

The above is an abstract outline on 15 x 22 inches cold press watercolor paper.  It is going to be done in transparent watercolor and the lines are first drawn in with pencil and then with a perament black felt tip pen.  I will give a hint of what the abstract is after I finished the painting in a few days.  Watercolor and gouache might be used for this abstract watercolor painting.  I like to experiment this line drawing with felt tip pen comparing with the ink resist techique I shown earlier because it gives a more define line which is more appropiate to this abstract subject.

Daily watercolor painting - Sunrise - Ink resist painting

This is the finished watercolor ink-resist painting done on 15 x 22 inches cold press watercolor paper.  The painting uses watercolor paint for the different layers.  An abstract watercolor painting about the sunrise or sunset.  Lately I have been trying some abstrat art  ideas using watercolor and ink resist as a way of expression.  It is fun to create this kind of abstract ideas which explores ones imagination.

This is the stage where the painting is being covered with permanent black ink.  The black ink will be permanently left on the areas where there is no white tempera.  This stage of the ink resist watercolor painting is to left dried overnight.  Next will be the wash shere areas of whte temera is being washed away.

You can see from the above image that the tempera and black ink is being washed away from the paper surface.  Warm water and a scrubbing brush is used for this step.  This left only the lines and some areas of the painting where the black permanent ink has eat into the watercolor paper surface.  After the paper is completely dry it is ready to be painted using watercolor, gouache, or Acrylic paint.

Ink resist watercolor painting - sketch and masking fluid

This ink resist watercolor painting is done on 15 x 22 inches 150 lb cold press watercolor paper.  First the outline of the painting is drawn with pencil on the watercolor paper.  Then where the lines are, masking fluid is painted on.  I use Pebeo drawing gum as my masking fluid and is painted on using a small brush in two layers.  After the masking fluid is dried, white tempera is painted on the entire painting surface covering all the lines and the dry masking fluid.  The painting is left to dry overnight.

Daily watercolor painting - Ink resist stage 2

In stage 2 show above, the entire painting with the tempera is completely dried and the masking area is slowly being taken off.  I use a eraser with the initial lift of the masking fluid and finish off with my fingers.  When it is all done, what is left is the white tempera paint and lines where the masking fluid used to be but now showing the white of the papser.  Next stage will be covering the entire watercolor paper with permanent black ink.

Daily watercolor painting – Abstract – Sea Blue

Daily watercolor painting - Abstract - Sea Blue

Another abstract watercolor on 15 x 20 cold press watercolor paper.  In this abstract watercolor study I have used wet in wet technique, salt and splattering with a tooth brush.  The paper surface is kept moist using a spray bottle of clear water.  The spray bottle produces fine mist instead of large drops of water to soften the painting edges.  The watercolor paint was put on without mixing and most are pure pigments from the tube.  I let the color mix on the cold press watercolor paper instead.

This is an abstract watercolor and is on a 15 x 20 inches cold press watercolor paper.  I did this by taping the watercolor paper on a steel pan as the one I used for ink resist technique.  Many times I use a fine mist water bottle to finely spray the watercolor paint I put on the watercolor paper.  It was fun and free.  Salt also use for areas as you can see from the photo.  Some splattering of the watercolor paint is also used.  Before it is completely dry, lines at the bottom of the paper is painted by a brush.

Abstract Watercolor – Cool Memory

Abstract Watercolor - Cool Memory

This watercolor abstract was done on a small sheet of cold press watercolor paper.  Red and blue was used in contrast with other colors to excite the visual aspect of the viewer.  I named this watercolor abstract Cool Memory.  Layers of watercolor pigment was applied with a large brush using wet in wet technique.  Tissue was used to bolt out some color in the background to give it an interesting texture.  Layers of color also added when previous layer has dried.  A rigger paint brush was used for different lines and at the end, salt effet was used on the still wet areas.
