Abstract Landscape 15 x 22 inches watercolor painting with ink outline

This is the finished abstract landscape watercolor painting.  It is painted on 15 x 22 inches Arches cold press watercolor paper.  More ink outline is drawn into the distance hills as I feel more texture is necessary to complete the overall feel of the painting.  The ink outline was done using a permanent marker and I have been using the Ultra Fine Point Sharpie.   I wonder if this is a good technique for stil life.  When I do the outline after the water color wash has been lay down, I have to be careful not to over do it and also the flow and shape of the overall design.  It is a good idea to do an area with the ink outline and place it on an art easel to view it for a period of time before you decide to do more.  Once it is applied, there is no way to erase the permanent black lines.

Abstract watercolro and ink painting

This is an abstract landscape painting using watercolor paint and ink outline.  The painting is sketch in the 15 x 22 inchescold press watercolor paper and layers of watercolor is painted on afterward.  It is necessary to keep in mind the shape and shadow of the varous element when putting the watercolor wash.  All the colors are done in layer wash and finally the ink outline is drawn which is the part I like the best.  Winsor and Newton watercolor as well as Da Vinci Watercolor paint is used here.  This painting is not final yet and I will post the finsih painting in the next post.

Abstract Watercolor Landscape

This is the final painting – Abstract Landscape.  Watercolor layer is applied on to more areas as well as ink outline being put on and shapes defined.  As before, the color is mainly used right out of the tube to give it a bright and enhanced feeling to the overall painting.  There is lots of fun doing this and next I think I am going to try a bigger painting using the same watercolor technique and then outline it with permanent black ink.

Abstract Landscape Watercolor Painting - Watercolor and Ink

I continue with the abstract landscape painting using ink and watercolor paint.  Shades are added as well as more outline to define shapes and texture.  The different watercolor wash is applied with the light and shadow in mind.  Most of the watercolor layers I put down one on top of each other is diluted straight from the watercolor paint tube to achieve a bright overall color.  I think more detail should be added onto the painting and I will be working towards completeting the painting and try a larger one with this technique.

Jackson Pollock study - Watercolor, Ink, Gouache

More color was added onto the watercolor study.  This time blue gouache was diluted and painted on.  The color of the gouache together with the watercolor underneath gives an illusion of distance and death to the painting.  I will add more layers of color to experiment a variety of effect to this abstract painting technique.  Lots of fun.

Watercolor, Ink, Gouache abstract painting - Jackson Pollock Inspired Study

For the daily watercolor paining on the Jackson Pollock inspired study, I have added permanent black ink and yellow gouache paint onto the watercolor surface.  The permanent black ink was diluted with water before it was put on and later spread with a pointed metal palette knife.  Some the lines are randomly added by dragging the palette alone the surface of the colod press watercolor paper before the ink is dry.  Because it is a permanent opque black ink, it stays on top of the watercolor underneath.   After the black ink is completely dried, yellow color gouache is being dripped on to the surface adding more intense color to the painting.

Orchid watercolor painting - 15 x 22 inches

I am painting green plants again.  Although orchids are not green, it is a plant.   This  continuing orchid watercolor painting has been done on 15 x22 inches cold press watercolor paper.  Mostly wet in wet wash was used in the flower sepals and petals.  Some dry brush watercolor technique was used in the darker areas of the pollinia.   It was quite interesting when painting any subjuct especially the orchid.   As I study the orchid, I am beginning to know the various part of the plant and as I paint more orchids I hope I can get the feel of the property of the flower.   I think orchids are very fun and delicate plants to paint in transparent watercolor.

Orchid watercolor painting - background wash still wet with mask

Done a background watercolor wash with the mask on the orchid.  It is a gradated wash and was done using a mixture of Yellow Ochre and Quinacridone Gold.  It was done in serveral washes when the other one is dry.  I want to try a simple watercolor wash background for this painting.  The key to the gradated wash was to mix more color than you will need for the wash, have a clean bucket of water and use a big flat brush.  Those three things are essential for doing a great watercolor wash.  It is good to use a wide big brush for the wash if your watercolor paper is larger than 15 x 22 inches.  Below is the result with the mask removed.
